Finland warns Russia to close all border crossings due to migrant pressure
Finland is prepared to close all border crossings with Russia if necessary, warning that Russia may try to smuggle soldiers or war criminals into the EU among the migrants it deliberately sends across the border.
Finland’s foreign minister, Elina Valtonen, told the Financial Times that Finland could move the country if Russia steps up its actions and allows migrants from countries such as Yemen, Iraq and Syria to cross the border without documents. Asylum applications can be submitted only at Helsinki airport, excluding land border checkpoints.
